Does music help or hinder your work? 4 Years, 8 Months ago
I'm just curious. I've always been one of those who thrives to music! It always makes me curious how some people are negatively affected by sounds even of the pleasant kind. Of course, not everyone one would consider a blaring a Bon Scott anthem to be "pleasant", but each person is entitled to their opinion...
Do you thrive on music when you work? If so, what is it that really gets you going?! If not... tell me where you live so we don't become neighbors! Only kidding, of course there are those times when a pin dropping is enough to rattle my brain.

I think it depends upon the person. I once read in "The Animators Survival Kit" by Richard Williams "Animation is Concentration". Mind you, he was an old school animator using acetate sheets for his medium. If I have to concentrate, I prefer no distractions, personally.
His take on the subject was that he had asked his Director if he listened to jazz or classical music while he worked. His Director, Milt Kahl, said, and I quote, "Of all the stupid questions I ever heard, I never heard such a F-F-F-F stupid question!I'm not smart enough to think of more than one thing at a time!" He went on to say that "many of his sound addicted computer animators were made objects of ridicule for having wires coming out of their ears. They were even more surprised at the startling improvement in their work"

That's an interesting take. You've got to love and respect the passions of eccentric creative types, leaders, entrepreneurs, etc. Regardless if they were the only one on the planet with the same strong opinion, how valid the opinion becomes when you see how well it works for them.
I for one dissolve into a spoonful of carbon if you take the wires out of my ears for too long!

Ah, the tunes are an ever important part of my work day at the Landscape Design Office. I rarely get anything done without music playing. Although I give myself at least an hour a day with the music off to clear the mind.
Lately I've actually been playing the type of music I think my client would like so I can concentrate on a personal design.

Definitely personally i do like listening to music and it makes me feel relaxed while working, as far as others are concerned there are some people who don't like listening to music while they are working.

End of time remix - Remixed by me, Kris Shades. I'm best know for my release called 'I Haven't Told You Everything', which can be found on I wrote both the music and lyrics for the track, while the vocals have been recorded with pop star Iza Szeles. I never stop in my strides to produce the next hit and you will be able to find more productions from me on either Youtube or Soundcloud. It was a very pleasurable experience to remix 'End of Time' with Beyonce's fantastic vocals, so I hope you will enjoy it ->> endoftime.beyonceonline.com/tracks/1118
